Chef Dan Hong is well known around the Sydney food scene. Add dim sum chef Eric Koh to the equation, and you’ll quickly see why the crowds flock to Mr Wong, especially when entertaining clients at a business lunch. Its secret laneway location is a surprisingly large space that can accommodate groups of all sizes and manages to create an intimate aesthetic with a 1930s Shanghai jazz club feel.

The banquet menu is perfect for a long work lunch, and the wok-fried mud crab or xiao long bao are rated among some of the best in the city. Top it all off with some deep-fried ice cream and watch the shock on the faces of your clients who originally thought you were just taking them to yet another dumpling den! Oh, how joyously wrong they will be!

Rockpool Bar & Grill

The name alone will impress your clients; Rockpool Bar & Grill is well-known, glamorous, and, let’s be honest, pretty expensive. However, there is a reason for the price tag, and it begins with the atmosphere. The stylish surroundings let you watch the chefs do their thing as you attempt to make a choice from the significant wine list.

Welcome your guests into the dining room and a plate of Tathra Sydney Rock oysters before you dive into the impressive mains list, the highlights of which are anything prepared in the wood-fired grill. As one of the most popular and well-respected spots in Sydney, it’s guaranteed that a business lunch here will leave everyone full and impressed.

The Glenmore Hotel

The Glenmore Hotel gives you that local pub feel, but the first level and rooftop terrace are incredibly impressive. Built in 1921, this heritage-listed hotel has been refurbished recently, giving things a modern tinge, but it still manages to keep all of the historical charms that people know and love it for.

So what does all of this mean for your corporate guests? Views of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, an outdoor area with a retractable roof, rustic wooden benches and a classic pub menu that still keeps things professional. If the lunch is a bit more relaxed, you can opt for fun options like the Popcorn Chicken with chilli lime mayonnaise!

This Glenmore may not be as fancy as the other venues mentioned in this list so far, but if you want some relaxed pub-charm to set the ambience for your lunch, this is the spot.

Your guests will enjoy a lunch by the Harbour at the popular Bar Patrón, thanks to its new(ish) Circular Quay location. This classy spot offers views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, where you can have a tequila-coupled lunch with plenty of Patrón cocktails paired with a Mexican menu.

As the only restaurant in the world that is officially partnered with Patrón Tequila, this concept is technically a spinoff from Rockpool, using some of their Chef talents to create a taco-dominated menu of pure joy. All Rockpool affiliates and offshoots are frequented by the corporate crowds’ thanks to their immediate prestige, and Bar Patron is no exception.

We’re talking house-pressed tortillas, eggplant carnitas, avocado mousse, and Patrón Silver salsa. So if you want a bit of Mexican flavour for your business lunch, this is the place.

Bentley Restaurant & Bar

This darkly lit space is a heritage-listed building with some of the more unique interiors in Sydney. With black metal scaffolding offset by diamond frosted shades and a cube light installation, the feel is like industrial chic in a bar that gets very busy when the work day ends.

During the work day, however, the space is a little more relaxed, and you’ll be able to dine on Chef Brent Savage’s delicious Queensland scallop, cold pea soup with frozen buttermilk and spanner crab and much more. There is an alternative but sophisticated feel here, so a professional lunch in this venue makes perfect sense. If you want corporate with a twinge of quirk, head to the Bentley Restaurant & Bar.

Bistecca

With a Chef’s Hat awarded in 2019, this underground CBD restaurant is the place to go for just one cut of steak, their specialty. Tuscany’s Bistecca Alla Fiorentina is the main dish in this marble-laden bar which puts a butcher’s block in full view. It is here that the Bistecca, which is made from high-quality black Angus beef, is prepared to help entertain your clients while they eat.

This spot loves its beef so much you can even get an edible candle made of beef dripping. So while this is a very specific dining experience that certainly won’t be suited to everyone, if you do take clients or staff here, they will undoubtedly be impressed.

Babylon

It may seem a little unsuspecting, being as it is in Westfield Sydney, but the massive 1200-square-metre Babylon is a Middle Eastern restaurant where Head Chef Arman Uz gives you plenty of Turkish delights.

The 30-dish hummus-fuelled menu features hits like Turkish broccolini and a smoked eggplant salad with woodfired capsicum that is a must-try.

Pair this all with the Middle Eastern-inspired cocktails or something from the 250-strong whisky list as you bask in the interior work of Woy Woy’s Stewart + Highfield. The rooftop terrace was inspired by the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and is incredibly luxe, a great business lunch spot with a menu that requires repeat visits.
